cinego D-1000

Htguys take the Radio Shack Cinego D-1000 for a spin. Though they had some trouble with their demo unit, but they give it good marks overall.

Overall the Cinego was a great piece of equipment. It rendered an excellent DVD image, and the external subwoofer really added to the audio to give it that extra punch it needed. As a portable home-theater-in-a-box system, it was a lot of fun.

It would work great for outdoor movies, or as an impromptu movie player anywhere, anytime. For $1300, you really can’t beat it’s ease and simplicity. There’s virtually no setup required, just plug it in, plug in the subwoofer, connect one cable between them and you’re ready for action.

There are more advanced features, such as component video inputs and digital audio outputs, but they really aren’t necessary.

If you try one of these, be sure to buy it at your local RatShack and keep your receipt. They usually have easy returns, but be ready in case you need to send Guido in.

I’m having a rough time trying to find a replacement bulb for the Cinego. Radio Shack never have them in stock. If I knew replacement bulbs would be difficult to find I would have left the Projector in the store!!!!!

THe cheap on-unit dvd player won’t read dvds with slightest scratch, you have to have a separate dvd player connected so that you can watch movies without any freeze or skips.
I’ve owned this unit for a little over 4 years and it won’t power up…
I’ve called the service number in the owners manual and it referred me to take it back to radioshack, which is where I bought it. Radioshack charged me $20 to have it diagnosed, and returned it to me rendering it irreparable because they don’t make the part that it needs. Their diagnosis reads “Power supply circuit board needed to rpair unit is no longer available. No substitute could be found.” You would figure that Radioshack would be the place to get a part for just about any electronics equipment.
The Projector that I’ve payed $1000, 4 years ago and I didn’t even get to the part of changing it’s lamp is now a piece of JUNK thanks to the Radioshack’s irresponsible “hit and run” business model.
